Claimants: Additional Information
: PCR Testing Procedure
PCR Testing Procedure
A Polymerase Chain Reaction
(PCR) test reveals the presence of the Hepatitis C (HCV)
virus in the blood. It confirms an ongoing HCV infection.
If you have been approved
at disease Level 1, you will require a positive PCR test in
order to be approved at disease Level 2. The Administrator
and a national laboratory have arranged a PCR testing program
for Level 1 Approved Class Members wishing to undergo a PCR
test.
The British Columbia
Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) will perform
the PCR test. In order to have this test done, you must be
an Approved Class Member at disease Level 1 and in receipt
of a "PCR Testing letter" from the Administrator.
This letter will include instructions on how to contact BCCDC
to book a PCR test. Do not contact BCCDC until you have received
the "PCR Testing letter".
What to expect:
- You will be required to call a toll-free
number and identify yourself as an Approved Class Member
with the 1986-1990 Hepatitis C Claims Centre.
- You will have a sample of your blood
collected and labelled in your presence.
- You or the parent or guardian
will be required to sign a Chain of Custody Form
before proceeding with the test.
- BCCDC will inform you of the proximate
location for collecting a sample of your blood.
- You must present photo ID to the Lab's blood collector
at the time of your test. One picture ID must include your
date of birth, e.g. Passport or Drivers Licence.
- Parents or Guardians must present the same proof of identification
as indicated above. If the claimant is under the age of
18, a parent or guardian able to sign forms and consent
to the blood collection must accompany him/her.
- We urge you to share the result of this test with
your family physician. Claimants wishing to do so must
bring the full name and address of their physician to the
test and give this information to BCCDC so the result can
then be forwarded to their physician.
- PCR test results will be mailed to:
1) the Administrator; and
2) to claimant/patient. Positive test results ("detect"
HCV) will also be mailed to
3) Provincial Public Health Department in the province where
you reside (as required by law); and to
4) your physician, at your request.
-
Please do not phone BCCDC or the Administrator for test
results. Results will be forwarded to claimants by mail.
Upon receipt of the test result, the Administrator will
resume assessing your claim.
